NOVA AGO Executive Board
AGO’s European Chapter is Coming to Town!
From April 17 - 21 this year, about 40 members of the European Chapter, AGO, will be in the Washington DC area for their annual “Spring Meeting.” This is the 19th Spring Meeting since the chapter was founded in 1979, but it is the first in the USA. The chapter will acquaint its members with American organs and organ building, since the focus of previous annual meetings has been mainly on European organs. About half the group on this year’s tour are from nine European countries, and the other half are from 12 U.S. states. The group will renew old friendships, make new contacts, carry out chapter business, and visit and play 14 organs in the DC area, Staunton, and Winchester, all but one of these of American manufacture. They also will tour the shop of Taylor and Boody Organbuilders in Staunton.
The European Chapter has asked for contact with colleagues in American AGO chapters, so the three DC-area AGO chapters have decided to host a champagne reception on Friday, April 21, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Norwood Parish, Chevy Chase, Maryland, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Members of all three DC-area chapters are cordially invited to attend, to meet with the visitors and to share camaraderie, professional interests, and collegial friendship. The European Chapter also will be hosted in Winchester by that AGO chapter on the previous day (Thursday, April 20).
There currently are a few extra seats on the group’s chartered bus, and they kindly invite local AGO chapter members to join them as they visit local instruments. $10 buys a seat on the bus for the day on a first-come, first-served basis.
